SENNA

(Cassia angustifolia)


A sweet, cooling, laxative herb with a tea-like aroma and anti-bacterial effects.

Senna (Cassia angustifolia)
· used as a cathartic
· to be combined with other herbs when it is used for bowel elimination
· suggested to use by itself only in acute constipation
· has an astringent toning effect on the digestive system and also effectively cleans the elimination system
· is habit forming as a cathartics and should only be used briefly for a cleansing
· its griping effect necessitates a carminative, such as ginger, cinnamon and cloves
· its action is chiefly on the lower bowel

SUGGESTED DOSAGE: should be used as directed by a qualified professional practitioner.
Tincture - Spray:
3-6 pumps three times daily.
Extract: ½ tsp 3 times daily.
Contra Indications: Not to be used by patients with colitis or spastic constipation. Not to be taken during pregnancy unless taken in a laxative combination. Excessive or frequent use may cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract and deterioration in bowel function.
