PASSION FLOWER

(Passiflora incarnata)


A bitter, sedative, cooling herb and is most commonly used for nervous conditions without pain, such as insomnia, restlessness, hysteria and nervous headaches.

PROPERTIES: antispasmodic, sedative, diaphoretic.

· harmanalkoloids relieve melancholy and reduces blood pressure, which accounts for its good effect when used to alleviate valerian’s depressant qualities
· tones the sympathetic nervous system
· childhood nervous problems such as twitching and irritability
· in elderly people, it its good for sciatica and nerve debility
· normally used as part of a prolonged treatment
· palpatation of heart from excitement or shock
· has mildly sedative and hypnotic properties, but is unlikely to be sufficient on its own, and is best used as a supportive drug used in tea mixtures
· insomnia from worry or overwork
· excellent for taking with herbs that tend to aggravate depression such as Valerian

SUGGESTED DOSAGE: should be used as directed by a qualified professional practitioner.
Tincture - Spray:
3-6 pumps three times daily.
Extract: ½ tsp 3 times daily.as needed.
Can be used on a regular basis. Tends to work better in combination with other herbs.
