HORSETAIL

(Equisetum Hyemale)


A healing herb that acts strongly on genitourinary system. It has excellent variety of uses especially in combination with other herbs.

PROPERTIES: astringent, diuretic, lithotriptic, emmengogue, galactoagogue, nutritive and vulnerary

Horsetail (Equisetum Hyemale)
· very high in the silicates that strengthens collagen in the body that appears most notably in the hair, fingernails, skin, bones, teeth and gums
· helps body utilize, absorb and hold calcium in the bones
· kills eggs of some parasites and expels parasites
· helpful for rebuilding injured tissue
· helps kidney problems especially kidney stones because of the calcium utilization effects
· saponins in this herb account for its diuretic properties
· helps treat rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases associated with improper calcium utilization
· helpful for internal or external bleeding
· good for prostate problems
· an irritating astringent used to contract tissues, glandular swellings and halts pus discharges, should be used with demulcent herbs

SUGGESTED DOSAGE: should be used as directed by a qualified professional practitioner.
Tincture - Spray:
3-6 pumps three times daily.
Extract: ½ tsp 3 times daily or as a poultice, works best by itself if used in smaller frequent doses.
CAUTION: Because of horsetail’s irritation of the kidneys, it is best used with demulcent herbs such as marshmallow, slippery elm, plantain, etc.
